The Housing Society Elderly Resource Centre is dedicated to promoting the concept of an "age-friendly home" in the community, enabling older adults to achieve their wish to age in place. Following a comprehensive renovation completed in December 2020, the Centre features two simulated home environments that demonstrate practical age-friendly design principles, introduces over 100 gerontechnology products and assistive devices. We offer a wide range of free themed guided tours and experiential activities, designed to deepen public understanding of gerontechnology and its application in age-friendly home living.
The MIND-Friendly Home Exploration Centre features two distinct zones: a simulated mind-friendly home and a multi-purpose seminar area. The Centre showcases assistive devices, gerontechnology products, and home modifications tailored for individuals with dementia, aiming to enhance their quality of life while reducing the carers' burden.
The space features two show flats that are 1:1 replicas of typical housing unit layouts in Hong Kong. These units highlight age-friendly designs tailored to the general needs of older adults, showcasing a variety of locally available age-friendly furniture and assistive tools that facilitate their daily living. Additionally, an interactive augmented reality (AR) game experience is incorporated to enhance visitor engagement.
These two show flats are co-designed by older adults, carers, architects, occupational therapists, and interior designers.
Visitors can wear ageing simulation suits to experience the physical decline of older adults, gaining firsthand insight into their daily challenges and thereby building greater empathy.
Leveraging the results from the interactive testing system, we provide guidance and recommendations to help visitors establish a healthy lifestyle through self-health management and exercise, enhancing their quality of life.
The Centre's multi-purpose seminar room is used for receiving visitors, hosting seminars, and conducting small group activities.
